In recent years, with the large number of lightweight materials used in the manufacture of automotive parts, the application of PCD and PCBN forming tools suitable for processing these materials has also increased significantly. PCD tools are made by welding PCD composite pieces to a carbide or steel cutter body. The PCD composite sheet combines the high hardness, high strength, high wear resistance and low friction coefficient of single crystal diamond with the high flexural strength of tungsten carbide cemented carbide matrix, the tungsten carbide layer can provide mechanical support for the diamond layer and increase its bending strength, and at the same time, the cemented carbide layer is easy to weld, making the preparation of PCD forming tools easier.

High processing stability

When using PCD tools to process aluminum alloy workpieces, due to the high hardness of diamond, small affinity with metal materials, and most of the rake surfaces of the tools are polished into mirrors, it is not easy to produce built-up edge, and good machining dimensional stability and surface quality can be obtained.

When using PCD tools to process aluminum alloy parts of various sizes and specifications, the tool life can reach thousands to tens of thousands of pieces, especially suitable for the large-scale production of automobile parts.

In terms of tool structure, PCD tools can be mainly divided into two categories: welded integral PCD forming tools and welded PCD blades.

Welded PCD forming tools with shanks (i.e., non-standard tools) are developing rapidly in the automobile and parts manufacturing industry, mainly including PCD forming milling cutters, PCD forming boring cutters, PCD forming reamers, and PCD composite forming tools composed of two or even three kinds of tools. The main forms of tool holders are cylindrical shank, BT shank (BT40, BT50), SK shank (SK40, SK50), HSK shank (HSK63, HSK100), etc. These forming tools can be used to process complex parts with high quality and efficiency in the first pass.
